There's no doubt that LittleBigPlanet is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and because it's a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Sony and developer Media Molecule certainly expect the little platformer that could to be a significant system seller.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, despite the likes of blockbusters like Gears of War 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour, LittleBigPlanet associate producer Eric Fong believes his unique and innovative title can hold its own. And perhaps more importantly, there is no specific target audience for this particular title...Media Molecule thinks it ought to appeal to just about anybody.
"Our target audience is everyone," said Fong, who spoke to GamesIndustry.biz at the Comic-Con event last month. "It's got enough complexity that people can play it and enjoy it for many hours; at the same time, if you're just a casual user you can run through and play the game and have fun with it. Everything you see in the developer levels, you can create as the player."
As for the potential for big sales, Fong simply said, "it's going to be a hardware seller. Not only do you have the platforming experience that a lot of other games will have, you have this creativity that really is exclusive to LittleBigPlanet." The only issue they may face is convincing gamers that the title is both original and accessible, and it offers something no other title can offer. Its cooperative-based gameplay is most certainly unique, but it could be difficult to convey the appeal to certain gamers. However, Media Molecule has the critics and those who have already sampled LittleBigPlanet on their side: just about everyone who has tried LBP has loved it.
This big PS3 title is confirmed for a Japanese release date of October 30, and will release some time that same month for North American and PAL territories.
